Unit 2
Understand fisheries and marine enforcement powers
Overview
This unit is about you demonstrating your knowledge of your powers as a warranted Marine Enforcement Officer (MEO) / Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Officer (IFCO). This includes knowledge of the extent and limitations of your powers, where your jurisdiction lies, what offences there are in relation to your powers and where British Sea Fishery Officer (BSFO) powers are applicable to you.
- Formal assessment
Formal assessment
Unit 2 is separated into 8 different modules that will assess your understanding of the various powers available to you to enforce the fisheries, marine licensing and nature conservation legislation conferred on you by the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. In carrying out your assessment of each, you can complete them in any order, and do not have to do them all in one go.
Each module is listed on this page, and contains within it a mixture of learning presentations, resources, a quiz and a formal assessment.
ResourcesThe resources in each module are specific to that particular module, and will provide you with the information required to complete your assessment. It is recommended that you undertake the learning package(s) prior to taking the assessment. You don't have to go through all the resources prior to carrying out your assessment, but they will act as a useful reminder of the legislation relating to that module. You may prefer to print off the resources and view them hard-copy as opposed to viewing them on here; it's up to you! You will of course have other resources to hand that you have acquired in your role that you might also wish to refer to before carrying out your assessment.
QuizTo help you test your knowledge of a particular module before doing the assessment, there might be a short quiz that will cover some of the pertenent areas of that topic. The quiz will not count towards your mark for the module, but will help direct your assessment and jog your memory. Again, you don't have to do the quiz before the assessment, but it may act as a useful reminder.
Each module has its own individual assessment and there is a template provided for you to upload your answers, enabling you to submit your work in bite-size amounts, rather than having to demonstrate all your knowledge for the whole of Unit 2 in one go.
AssessmentEach assessment will capture your personal understanding of that area of legislation. The assessment will ask you to summarise or explain a particular topic. The assessment could be scenario based with a selection of questions to answer or ask you for a short explanation or summary of the module.
